Voir Clair Photo

Welcome to the heart of Voir Clair — a space where art meets life, and stories unfold in soft light. Here, you’ll find journal entries from behind the lens, confessions from the kitchen table, and lessons for photographers walking the same winding path. Whether you’re here for inspiration, information, or a kindred voice, you’re in good company.

When is the Ideal time to Schedule My Maternity Photos | Lehigh Valley Maternity Photographer

There’s something utterly timeless about a woman becoming a mother—whether it’s her first baby or her fifth. The glow, the strength, the anticipation—it deserves to be captured with intention and tenderness.

But when, exactly, is the best time to book your maternity session?

Let’s talk timing, mama. Because these fleeting weeks deserve more than a passing glance.

The Sweet Spot: 28 to 34 Weeks

Most photographers (myself included) recommend scheduling your maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks. Here’s why this window works like magic:

  • You’re showing beautifully—your belly has that unmistakable curve, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move with ease.
  • Swelling and fatigue haven’t fully set in yet, especially if you’re planning for an outdoor session or wardrobe changes.
  • Baby hasn’t dropped too low, which means that round, centered bump photographs like a dream.

Earlier vs. Later: What to Consider

  • Expecting multiples? Consider bumping your session to around 26–28 weeks. Twins and more often make their appearance a little sooner.
  • Feeling extra radiant and energized? Some mamas want to celebrate the second-trimester energy boost around 24–27 weeks—totally an option!
  • Cutting it close? Even if you’re past 34 weeks, don’t count yourself out. I’ve photographed stunning maternity portraits right up to 38 weeks with the right pacing and care.

When to Book Your Spot on the Calendar

While your session might take place at 30 weeks, it’s best to book it as early as your second trimester. This gives us plenty of time to:

  • Plan a wardrobe that flatters and flows
  • Choose the perfect location (or cozy in-home vibe)
  • Create space for you to feel seen, celebrated, and safe

What If Baby Comes Early?

Life happens—especially in motherhood. I build flexibility into my schedule for this very reason. If baby makes an early debut and we miss your maternity session, your credit can always roll into a newborn or milestone session.

Final Thoughts

Your maternity season is more than a milestone—it’s the unfolding of something sacred. Whether you’re still keeping your pregnancy hush-hush or already browsing names and nursery themes, this chapter deserves to be honored.

When you’re ready, I’ll be here. With a gentle lens, a thoughtful eye, and the quiet joy of knowing this moment will mean even more with time.
